Created in Puerto Vallarta, this humorous black-and-white drawing pays tribute to Picasso. A little black cat—possibly the artist himself—watches a woman inspired by Picasso’s muses, surrounded by countless observing eyes.

STORY

Raphaël Pathé is a French-born artist whose journey into painting and pastels began at an early age under the guidance of his mother, the acclaimed Martine Séchoy Wolff. A pioneering figure in the contemporary art world, Martine exhibited regularly at the original Art Basel in Switzerland from 1979 onwards, helping shape the very evolution of the fair. Together, mother and son explored museums and exhibitions across Europe, cultivating a deep artistic bond and a refined visual sensibility.

Switzerland left a profound impression on Raphaël. The country's immaculate order, the omnipresence of vibrant reds in its craftsmanship, and the precision of colour application became lasting influences. His mother’s fascination with African and Egyptian ancient symbols, as well as her use of gold and abstract forms, further shaped his creative vocabulary.

Though self-taught, Pathé's lifelong commitment to drawing has produced a raw, instinctive body of work filled with energy and saturated colour—a reflection of his deep love for the sun and the belief that colour shines brightest under clear skies. To embody this radiant philosophy, he adopted the artistic name Elkolor.

Raphaël has always moved within the contemporary art scene. At the age of 20, he began appearing in avant-garde exhibitions and experimental works, including his role as "Félix" in the films of British artist Hilary Lloyd. His image has been projected in prestigious spaces such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and venues in New York. The collaboration with Hilary Lloyd was featured in ArtReview and Frieze magazine as early as 1995, marking him as a vibrant figure within the international art landscape.
